Consistency that Delivers. Protein that Performs

The ability of the STgenetics® lineup to deliver consistent results while meeting evolving market needs was showcased well with the release of the April 2026 Genetic Evaluation. Holstein Association USA announced an update to the Total Performance Index (TPI®) Formula to meet the evolving needs of today’s dairy producers in regard to Fat and Protein. Namely, the specific changes to the TPI® formula included: increasing the weighting on PTA Protein from 19 to 24 and decreasing the weighting on PTA Fat from 19 to 14.

STgenetics® breed leaders DOMINANCE, CAPTAIN & GARZA brought consistent performance and strong protein results this Genetic Summary. DOMINANCE held steady in the top five on the Holstein Association USA Top 100 TPI® at +3437 TPI, +1127 NM$, +64 Prot and +3.5 PL. CAPTAIN was not far behind at +3356 TPI, +64 Prot, +117 Fat, +3.6 PL and CAPTAIN’s son GARZA is at +3339 TPI, +50 Prot, +140 Fat and +1103 NM$.

Effective immediately, CAPTAIN enters a new phase of global accessibility. Making an impact on farms around the globe and shaping the direction of the breed, CAPTAIN has built a legacy few can match. His influence is not defined by a single proof run, but by consistency, by elite productivity, by the kind of udder quality that set a benchmark, and by a level of trust earned internationally. Now, that legacy takes on a new dimension. CAPTAIN moves into a chapter where access replaces anticipation, officially leaving Legend™ status and now living his legacy without restrictions. The wait is over. CAPTAIN is no longer just part of the story of the breed; now he can be part of yours. If you did not have him as a Legend™, now is your time to have your own CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN is now openly available to everyone around the globe, in 4M™ and High Purity™.

In Canada, the red, polled sire AUGUSTUS P RED joined the Proven ranks at +3786 GLPI, +43 kg Prot +.17% and +8 Conf +11 F&L. This secured him a solid position on the Top 100 Holstein Bulls by LPI from Lactanet. Not far behind AUGUSTUS P RED was JOHNBOY at +3775 GLPI, +2529 PRO$, +81 kg Prot and +.37%, +100 kg Fat and +.51%, and is +9 Conformation. PENZA delivers protein, production and consistency at +2602 PRO$, +3604 GLPI, +88 kg Prot +.33% and +1264 kg Milk.

STgenetics® Exclusive Indexes

Behind every STgenetics® index is real data and continuous research, and their exclusive Robotic Cow Index (RCI) is no exception, successfully bringing an economically efficient index to the breeding table for Robotic Milking herds. RCI was developed with over 5 years of research, gathering data from over 10,000 cows and over 2,300,000 daily milking records to identify specific genetic markers that STgenetics® believes would be the most beneficial to Robotic Milking herds.

As research is continuous at STgenetics®, RCI has added a measurable amount of data from the Ohio Heifer Center and partner herds and has pinpointed areas to make this index more specific to robotic dairy needs. During this proof week, new robotic phenotype traits for Digital Front and Rear Teat Distance, Digital Teat Length, Digital Udder Tilt and Milking Temperament Score were added to RCI, further enhancing the accuracy and impact of our genetic solutions.

The Eco$ Index was also updated this Genetic Evaluation to follow the industry protein trends and reflect a shift in productivity by adding emphasis to protein. Namely, protein pounds and protein percentage will both receive higher emphasis in the Eco$ Index.

STgenetics® will soon introduce two new traits — Mature Live Weight (MLW) and STurdy — designed to improve dairy profitability by optimizing efficiency without compromising durability. MLW leverages extensive real-world data to directly reduce maintenance energy requirements by moderating mature body weight, improving feed conversion efficiency. While STurdy ensures cows maintain the width and structural capacity needed for long-term performance. Together, they enable producers to balance efficiency, production, and longevity for better overall margins.
