Remembering CHIEF: The Breeders’ Favorite

STgenetics® is saddened to share the passing of Stantons CHIEF, a global icon whose influence on Holstein genetics can be seen in herds, pedigrees and showrings around the world.

Bred by Stantons Brothers Ltd., CHIEF was a Stantons High Octane son from Rockymountain Uno Cheyanne VG-85. From a respected cow family and backed by genetics that caught the attention of breeders early on, CHIEF would go on to become one of the most successful and influential sires in the history of the STgenetics® lineup.

Known as “The Breeders’ Favorite,” CHIEF earned that name through the confidence breeders placed in his genetics. More than 500,000 doses of CHIEF semen were sold, mostly in gender-sorted semen.

The numbers behind his influence are remarkable: at least 56,352 daughters across 11,333 herds, including some of the most prominent herds in the world, with many more CHIEF daughters milking across the globe.

Recognized for his contribution to type, CHIEF became a trusted name among breeders looking to create exceptional females. His daughters earned outstanding classifications and achieved success at shows around the world, taking his influence from the barn to some of the industry's most competitive showrings.

That combination of widespread use, highly regarded daughters and success across different breeding programs made CHIEF more than a popular sire. He became a genetic reference whose contribution can be found not only in his thousands of daughters, but also in the generations that continue through them.

Today, we say goodbye to The Breeders’ Favorite, but CHIEF's story continues in the genetics he leaves behind.

Thank you, CHIEF, for the genetics, the daughters and the generations still to come.

STgenetics® congratulates and thanks the Stantons on breeding CHIEF and on all of his global success!
