STgenetics® Global Sire Summary Success

The December 2023 Genetic Evaluations were released earlier this week and the success of STgenetics® sires was seen around the globe. Along with CAPTAIN who claimed tops spots in the U.S., Canada and the UK, STgenetics® is home to four of the top five sires on the Top 100 International TPI® bull list from Holstein Association USA and JOHNBOY, the top LPI Proven sire in Canada. Also notable, RAD and CAPTAIN are the #1 and #2 GTPI sires among bulls that are above 18 months of age.

CAPTAIN maintained his #1 spot for the fourth time in a row on the Top 100 TPI® List at +3253 TPI and was also the highest on the list for Fat at +150 lbs. He is proven to make long lasting daughters that milk well and have beautiful udders as he combines +2474 lbs of Milk with +1.56 for UD and +5.0 for PL. CAPTAIN was also the #1 MACE-LPI Sire at +3754 MACE-LPI in Canada and claimed the top spot in the UK with a PLI of £814, while adding 180 milking daughters there. 

In Canada, JOHNBOY is the #1 LPI Sire at +3702 LPI and he balances out his intriguing profile with +11 CONF, +107 kg Fat and +85 kg Prot. This REDROCK son also came in at number 10 on the UK list with PLI £706 and he has the highest Type Merit in the top 10 at +2.29. Also, DAWSON was the top sire on the Top 100 Holstein Bulls for Milk in Canada at +3406 kg Milk.

All in all, STgenetics® added 29 new sires following the December 2023 Genetic Evaluation. This group included 11 Legend™ sires that averaged +3128 GTPI and +1181 NM$ with 9 of those being A2A2. Of the 29 new releases, 1 is Red, 2 are Polled and 25 are A2A2. Two new Jerseys, 3 new Brown Swiss, 1 new Ayrshire and 4 new STamina™ sires also joined the lineup. 

Some of these new sires were from the Delta-LAMBDA legacy.. For LIQUIDCOURAGE and LUCKY BREAK, it's the meeting of two great pedigrees as both are sons of CAUGHT YOUR EYE, 3-time class winner at World Dairy Expo in Madison. They are STyle Genetics® sires and will please breeders who are looking for type. RANGEFINDER from the Bosdale Rose family completes the trio with a balanced profile of GPA-LPI and Conformation.

In the U.S., newcomers UPSIDE and OUTCOME joined the Top 100 International TPI® Bulls list at #2 and #3, respectively. As a CHARL that goes back to the great Delicious cow, UPSIDE is making balanced cows while providing excellent health and production traits. UPSIDE is +3112 TPI, +1220 NM$, +1226 CM$ and +6.7 PL. He is also A2A2 and an EcoFeed®cow sire at +104 for Feed Conversion Efficiency in lactating cows. At +3078 TPI, OUTCOME is #3 on the list and the highest UDC sire in the top 5 at +2.27. He is also +1.75 for PTAT.

HOLDON, another CHARL son, rounds out the top 5 at +3060 TPI. HOLDON is +1202 NM$, +1214 CM$ and +105 lbs Fat and +69 lbs Protein. He is an EcoFeed®plus sire that also excels in health traits being +5.6 PL, 2.63 SCS, +1.5 LIV and +0.9 DPR.

TAMPA moved up to #13 on the December TPI list at +3015 TPI. He is once again the top Productive Life sire on the Top 100 International TPI® Bulls List at +7.3 PL. TAMPA is a great combination of health and production traits at +2224 lbs of Milk, +1086 NM$, +1091 CM$, +74 lbs of Protein, +2.1 DPR and +3.4 LIV. He is also A2A2.

Right behind TAMPA on the TPI list is DELUXE at +3014 TPI. This A2A2 sire is a components booster at +137 lbs of Fat with a +.24% and +64 lbs of Protein and +.03%. He combines that production with type being +1.85 PTAT and +2.01 for RUH and +3.06 for RUW. He is also specified as a Robotic Milking Sire, based on STgenetics® exclusive Robotic Cow Index.

Robotic Milking Genetics helps dairy farmers make accurate mating decisions for the Holsteins in their robotic herds. The traits in the STgenetics® exclusive Robotic Cow Index include Milking Speed (53% heritability), Box Time (42% heritability), Efficient Milking Speed (36% heritability) and finally phenotypic data for Rear Teat Placement, Front Teat Placement and Teat Length provided by CDCB. These new indices are based on data collected directly on robotic farms and on new genetic markers validated by STgenetics®.

Jersey standouts that were towards the top of the industry for Cheese Merit Dollars and JPI included WORLD CLASSIC at +179 JPI and +723 CM$, WINN +178 JPI and +745 CM$, GARLAND at +178 JPI and +676 CM$ and SINCLAR at +176 JPI and +728 CM$.

KINGPIN comes to the top of the STgenetics® Brown Swiss lineup at +197 PPR, +693 NM$ and +705 CM$. Those accolades make this new Brown Swiss sire a top 10 Sire for both PPR and Net Merit in the breed. Another new sire TESLA is +165 PPR, +546 NM$ and is STgenetics® highest Brown Swiss milk sire at +1479 lbs of Milk.
